Lube Tech Ready for More?
Here's Your Next Move.
Entry-Level Diesel Technician
$20–$28/hr
May's Fleet Sales & Service | Syracuse, NY
If you've been working as a lube technician and wondering what comes next — we'd like to make you an offer.
May's Fleet Sales & Service is hiring an entry-level diesel technician, and we're specifically looking at candidates with fast-lube or dealership lube experience. Here's why: you already show up on time, you work efficiently, you understand preventive maintenance, and you know how to operate in a professional shop environment. That's not nothing — that's exactly the foundation we build on.
You don't need diesel experience to apply. You need the right attitude and a genuine desire to grow.
What's Different About This Job
You've probably noticed that lube work has a ceiling — on pay, on skill development, and sometimes on how the work feels day to day. This is the job that breaks through that ceiling.
- Higher pay, right away. Starting at $20–$28/hr — a meaningful jump from typical lube tech wages, with clear advancement as your diesel skills develop.
- Real skill development. You'll work alongside experienced diesel technicians on Class 3–8 commercial trucks — learning diagnostics, systems, and repairs that make you genuinely more valuable every year.
- No more high-volume churn. This is a 13-bay independent shop serving local fleet customers, not a quick-lube conveyor belt. You'll have time to do the job right.
- No weekends. No nights. No exceptions. Monday through Friday, first shift, every single week.
You're Probably a Fit If:
- You're currently working as a lube tech, oil change technician, or in a similar entry-level shop role.
- You're reliable, take direction well, and want to keep learning.
- You're ready to work toward ASE certifications and build a long-term career.
- You hold a valid driver's license.
Prior diesel experience is welcome but absolutely not required. If you know your way around a vehicle and you're coachable, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Receive:
- $20–$28/hr to start, with pay that grows as your skills do.
- Monday–Friday, first shift — your evenings and weekends are your own.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance (50% employer paid).
- ASE certification reimbursement — we pay for your credentials.
- Boot allowance.
- Company-matched retirement plan (up to 3%).
- Hands-on mentorship from experienced diesel technicians every day.
- A clean, heated, well-equipped shop where the work is steady and the team is tight.
What the Career Path Actually Looks Like
Entry-level here means starting point, not stopping point. Technicians who come in at this level and apply themselves move into higher-pay diagnostic and repair roles as their diesel knowledge grows. We'll support your ASE certifications, give you increasing responsibility, and pay you more as you earn it. This is a trade career with a real trajectory — and it starts with this job.
